In an era where disrupting established industries, beliefs and even currency itself is the ‘new black,’ Millennials are already the largest generation in the workforce. In fact, the Millennial generation is replacing the Boomer generation at all levels in all industries to the tune of thousands of people per day – and it’s slated to continue for more than a decade.
Baron has a different message than most authors on the subject of Millennial employees, who are often dismissed as unwilling to take direction and having a large sense of entitlement by older managers.
“We’re in the midst of the biggest change in workforce demographics of all time,” says Baron. “In the immediate future, corporate winners and losers will be decided by the Millennial generation,” he says.
The bottom line according to Baron is that the organizations “who fail to attract and retain Millennial talent will be the losers. It’s as simple as that.”
The Millennial generation is the generation born after 1980 and according to Baron, place a much higher priority on meaningful work and contributing their efforts to something meaningful than did members of either the so-called Generation X or Baby Boomers before them. The U.S. population now includes more than 70 million Millennials.
