Danielle K. White works in a commodity industry – hair styling. Every stylist knows how to cut and color hair. Having only so many hours in a day, White struggled with how to stand out, be chosen by clients and how to increase her income.
Early in her career, White fell in love with hair extensions. She had been unhappy with her own hair and was looking for a way to make it look better. Hair extensions allowed her to do that.
She explained that the skill of doing extensions is not taught in basic styling classes and is a skill that has to be learned later. White perfected this skill and eventually created her exclusive sought-after Natural Beaded Rows Hair Extension Method.
She started learning how to market herself and explains how she fell into doing that. “Somebody mentioned to me the idea of a brand or a website. I simply thought a brand was just having a logo with my name on it and a business card. I dove into starting my website and I actually started doing YouTube videos. Right after I built my website, I had my first couple of fly-in clients,” she shared.
In her website, she positioned herself as an expert and designed her own extension technique, Natural Beaded Rows Hair Extension Method, and shared that with the world. She encourages other stylists to have a niche that is theirs or they can become part of the Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) niche.
She now teaches other stylists how to use her NBR extensions. In addition to having an online video course, she also offers group or one-on-one training to enable them to become experts at this craft.
Her most current venture is in response to the many requests from other stylists about how to create their own brands and grow their niche as she has. White incorporates training from a business standpoint into her one-on-one program.
“I always tell my stylists that train with me to think smarter and not work harder, and to look at the business standpoint. I started trying to figure out how to get more traffic to my site and it went from there. If you take the time to market and build a site or brand, then you will be able to hand select your clients. You can get them to fly in to you and you can increase your price point.” The strategies shared by Danielle White for stylists are noteworthy for success in this career.
