
With A New Dawn for Harlem, the New York City Council Candidacy initiative of Dawn Simmons, the Harlem Blues Cafe held it’s first major event of the year. The cafe, in business for only less than a year, saw another successful night of the use of it’s coffeshop and event space on Tuesday, January 17th, as Harlem residents came out for an evening with Harlem’s own Dawn Simmons and Harlem Blues Cafe’s Fatih Beqiri. The fundraiser proved rising local support of the Harlem community for Candidate Simmons and the Harlem Blues Cafe with a large crowd rotation of approximately 70 people attending the event at the intimate space and regardless of the storming weather.
Harlem residents came out to the new Harlem Blues Cafe to have a night of food, drinks and community dialogue with Dawn Simmons, Harlem Resident, Activist, and NYC Council Candidate for District 9. Dawn Simmons and her A New Dawn for Harlem party utilized the Harlem Blues Cafe as an event space to meet with local Harlemites and provide a space for people to give their voices an opportunity to speak with Candidate Simmons about a range of political issues and potential resolutions for the District 9 community. As the fundraiser also promoted Simmons’ campaign run to fill the seat of New York City Council for District 9, the Harlem community spent time with Dawn Simmons at Harlem Blues’ to learn more about her extensive background and what she hopes to do to create more of community-oriented changes with her political initiative and hopeful election to become a NYC Council Member.

Dawn Simmons is one of 12 Candidates in running for the February 2017 Special Election for NYC Council District 9, the New York City area covering parts of the Upper West Side, Harlem and Morningside Heights. Candidate Simmons brings her vasts education, professional and life experience to her campaign and election for the District 9 community of the NYC Council. Simmons entails being a fourth-generation Harlem resident, a former Social Worker and NYC School Teacher, Community Advisory Board Member for Harlem Community Hospital, Activist for Criminal Justice Reform, Graduate of Columbia University with a Masters In Social Work and much more.
