Molly Ola Pinney, Founder and CEO of the Global Autism Project was the featured guest on Influencers Radio to kick off World Autism Awareness Month.
The episode put a spotlight on the fact that in many parts of the world, families of children with autism have no resources, nowhere to turn and live in communities that have little to no understanding or acceptance of people with autism.
In the interview, Pinney explained how the Global Autism Project is working hard to change this by partnering with communities around the world to provide training on how to work with kids with autism in a SUSTAINABLE way. The organization is also growing the understanding, acceptance and integration of people with autism worldwide by educating these communities in culturally relevant and quality practices.
When asked what’s next for the Global Autism Project, Pinney replied, “We are looking at Vision 2020. That is 20 centers of excellence worldwide in 20 communities for people with autism. We have a little ways to go. It’s going to be a quick onboarding process here in order to do that.
“We’ve really spent the last 13 years figuring out how to do this, figuring out how to do this in a way that’s effective, figuring out how to do this in a way that sustainable, and creates real change.
“When we partner with a center, and our partnership with them ends, they’re in a very different place than when we started. They have trained therapists. They have awareness campaigns. They’re typically working with the local government, working with local universities to really create systemic change for people with autism all over the world. That’s what’s next, 2020.”
