Samantha Alford, the CEO of Getudigital, is an expert at email marketing. Most businesses have become enamored with social media, the new kid on the block, hoping to use it to grow their customer base. What they find, however, is that they are not realizing a return in real dollars from all the efforts they are putting into using social media.
Alford works with established small businesses that want to start growing their businesses. In addition to getting new customers, they want to nurture their customers and increase sales from their existing customer base. Many of these businesses have what Alford calls leaky buckets.
“They want to plug some of those leaky buckets at the front end of their sales process. So they might have people visiting their website and just bouncing off and never visiting again, or they might have someone coming into their storefront and not coming in again. They want to know how to capture some of that business that’s going elsewhere,” shares Alford.
Alford believes that the strongest weapon in a marketing arsenal is email. According to Alford, “Social media is very powerful to get the attention of people and to spark their first interest. But email is the most powerful place and the most private place for people online. So for someone to let you into their email box, it’s like letting you into their home. They need to know, like and trust you enough to allow you in there and to stay in there and to warrant spending their time reading the material that you send them.
When you actually respect that status and that privilege of being inside people’s email inboxes, you’re in a position to actually help educate, nurture and solve those prospects’ or customers’ problems because you’re in that space where they’re going to spend more time actually reading through the information that’s in there.”
Alford is an expert at using a platform called Infusionsoft that allows businesses to automate their email marketing campaigns, allowing them to spend their time on other important aspects of their business. Alford shares five email marketing campaigns that she believes are necessary for growing and nurturing a customer base.
